Vlassenbroek is a beautiful natural area in Baasrode. From the Scheldt dikes, you can enjoy stunning views of the Vlassenbroek Polder nature reserve. Situated in a meander of the Scheldt River, the polder covers an area of approximately 300 hectares. The landscape is characterized by areas both inside and outside the dikes, featuring habitats such as creeks and ditches, grasslands, freshwater tidal marshes, and wetlands. The diversity of flora and fauna is exceptionally rich.

Walking and cycling
Thanks to the Sigma Plan, remarkable landscapes have been created along the Scheldt River, including the Vlassenbroek Polder. This 200-hectare controlled flood area helps protect the region from flooding.
At the same time, it has become a beautiful natural area with rare wet woodlands, mudflats, and salt marshes. Put on your walking shoes or hop on your bike and come unwind in this peaceful setting.

Artists’ Village
Did you know that Vlassenbroek is also a remarkably creative village? This artists’ village has a magnetic appeal for anyone who appreciates art and beauty.
In the past, several artists lived and worked in Vlassenbroek. As you stroll through its picturesque streets, you can still spot traces of its artistic heritage here and there.

Saint Gertrude’s Church
The jewel of Vlassenbroek is undoubtedly the Gothic Saint Gertrude’s Church. The church is built in the shape of a cross, with slate-covered gabled roofs crowned at the centre by a small wooden bell tower.
Every Sunday in July and August, Saint Gertrude’s Church can be visited free of charge between 2:00 PM and 6:00 PM.
