Origins

Villa Ritte takes its name from Georges Ritte, a contractor who was active in dike works in the region. Although he originally came from Schaerbeek, he purchased the plot in Grembergen. Around 1913, he had the house built there. A few years later, the villa was extended with a summer house in the characteristic Art Nouveau style.

Today, Villa Ritte has been in the hands of the Malfliet family for several generations. In 1989, Chris Malfliet took over the house from his mother. For him, the greatest value of the house lies not only in its architecture, but above all in the countless memories that have been created there over the years.

Art Nouveau

Making everything feel like a work of art, from the furniture to everyday objects — that is the aim of the Art Nouveau style.

The style of Villa Ritte belongs to the École de Nancy, an influential French artistic movement within Art Nouveau. The movement represented the Lorraine branch of Art Nouveau and established the region as one of Europe’s leading centres for innovative applied arts and architecture.
