Dendermonde is not only known for its decennial Ros Beiaard procession. Every last Thursday of August, the three Guild giants Indiaan, Mars, and Goliath dance through the city center as the stars of their own Katuit procession. In 2005, the giants and Katuit were inscribed on UNESCO’s Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.
In a magical evening parade, Indiaan, Mars, and Goliath are surrounded by over 1,000 historically costumed performers. Floats with horses, music bands, professional street theater, flag swingers, and torchbearers create a unique spectacle each time. More than 40,000 spectators flock to Dendermonde for Katuit. The apotheosis on the Grote Markt, featuring the three Guild giants and the Ros Beiaard Harmony, is impressive. A grand musical fireworks display behind the Town Hall provides a stunning finale.
