The gunpowder shooters have been part of the Dendermonde processions for many decades. During the parade, they march ahead of the Ros Beiaard, but once on the Grote Markt, they prepare for the fire battle and divide into three platoons stationed at the corners of the square. The shooters aim to prevent the Ros Beiaard and the Four Sons of Aymon from leaving the Grote Markt. The Ros Beiaard rears and fights. The battle is repeated several times. Finally, the Ros Beiaard braves the fire, breaks through, and disappears to loud applause.
